Top 50 greatest bands ever
We went out last night to this pub near Piccadilly Circus called Waxy O'connor's, me and the people from the cafe: Claudia, Ricardo, Fernanda, Camila and Sandra. There is like a tree inside the place, which is really cool and the music is great. I think it was the first time I've been to a place here where they play rock instead of those shitty dance songs...
In no time I'd had three pints. Just like that. Unfortunately - well, maybe fortunately to my pocket - the pub closed at midnite and I couldn't drink much more than the fourth pint.
On our way to the bus stop I had the more than expected urge to go to the bathroom. There was one of those paid toilets, which costs 50p for you to use it, and I decided to give it a try. Maximun time is 20 minutes inside. It was occupied. But it didn't take much longer for the COUPLE to get out of there. It's pretty clean, though. After it's used it "cleans" itself ready for the next person, or people... Anyway, there are pics but, of course, Ricardo has them.
I went home and I was certain that I would do a bailinho... but nahh. Watched some TV, ate something...
On Sunday, when I was supposed to study a little, I watched TV all day. I've been really tired and learned on Friday that my shift for next week is 7 and 1/2 hours. It would be eight hours but I can't start at midday because my class ends at midday... Anyway, I watched the film 'Taxi Driver', cool. Then I kinda kept watching eveything, until I saw this Top 50 start. I love Top something. But I have to say that this is a Top 50 from a British point of view. I would have never imagined that Nirvana wouldn't make the top 5. And Green Day being the highest-positioned American band? And where are The Beatles? Is it because they can't show the videos?
Whenever I watch these Top something I remember back in my MTV days in Poa, when I was a teen. I used to write down on my journal the Top 10 of the day every single day, most of the videos being grunge bands...
Well, I watched Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and I remember the very first time I saw it. It was 1991, MTV had gotten in Poa just a couple of months before. It was November or December, I'm not sure exactly when but I was on vacation. MTV had prepared those little ad-videos presenting the 'new bands' which were Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Live, Soundgarden and Ugly Kid Joe. Right after they played 'Teen Spirit'. I thought it was cool but had to confess that I was more into Pearl Jam at the time. Anyway, the point is that it happened 15 years ago... 15 fucking years ago... Yet the imagine is so vivid... I just can't believe that I'm 15 years older right now, not that I consider myself as a 13-year-old (at least not always!), but what makes me feel almost disturbed is that I haven't noticed, you know? The years'd gone by just like that and I honestly haven't noticed...
